Calligraphy Two

Pastels on Textured Cardboard with Sealer Application · 15 × 25 inches

Unlike its companion piece in “Calligraphy One," "Calligraphy Two" completely abandons figurative representation. Instead, script-like forms flow across the surface in layered shades of gold, amber, and deep red, transforming language into rhythm. These marks do not aim for readability; rather, they pulse with pure gesture.

Soft chalk adheres to the rough cardboard, introducing friction and irregularity, while a resin seal preserves the lines within a luminous field. The tension between immediacy and permanence reflects the balance between tradition and reinvention.

Rooted in Persian calligraphic heritage yet liberated from semantic constraints, this work reclaims script as a form of visual energy. Meaning emerges through repetition, cadence, and spatial vibration—where memory and identity exist not in words, but in movement.
