Calligraphy One
Pastels on Textured Cardboard with Sealer Application · 15 × 25 inches
In “Calligraphy One”, an elongated nude figure bends forward within a saturated red field, encircled by sweeping script-like forms. The body appears stretched and precarious, molded by the tension of the marks that surround and intersect it.
The calligraphic gestures evoke Persian script yet refuse legibility. Writing becomes movement rather than language—looping, enclosing, pressing inward. It functions as an atmosphere and a boundary, simultaneously decorative and confining.
